Donation Recipient : Marley's Mutts

by Erica Preo |

Marley's Mutts is a truly incredible organization with a great story. Located in Tehachapi, California, it was founded by Zach Skow at the lowest point in his own life. Although he was only in his twenties, he had spent many years drinking himself to death. The only hope for him was a liver transplant which his doctors would only consider if he quit drinking for six months first.

He moved back home with his father, who had a soft spot for homeless dogs and they needed exercise. Zach began walking them and then running them, and suddenly he was better. So rather than saving the dogs, the dogs saved him and ever since he's been dedicated to not only homeless dogs but also people who are in desperate need of saving themselves from substance abuse, PTSD, and many other tragedies. And Zach doesn't just pull the easy to place dogs from city shelters, he takes on the abused, the handicapped and disfigured, the aggressive, the bully breeds, the ones who normally don't stand a chance. A lot like he was.

We're so proud to support Marley's Mutts that our donation covers not one but two quarters. If you'd like to learn more about Marley's Mutts, please do visit their website: marleysmutts.org.
